"There is nothing quite like the feeling of having a full class engaged, asking questions, working hard, and knowing that you have created that learning environment for them."

During lockdown, I was working from home which gave me plenty of time with my own thoughts. I realised that I needed something more purposeful, and that’s when I decided that I should try teaching. I had no idea whether I would like it, so I became a Learning Support Assistant at a nearby school. I loved working with the SEND students and in a school environment. After a year, I felt ready to take the plunge and applied to i2i to train as a Maths Teacher.

From the start, i2i were unbelievably organised. They responded to my application almost immediately and before I knew it, I was at Weydon School for my interview. The interview was really fun, I enjoyed presenting my “mock lesson” to some lovely Year 8s who were friendly and answered/asked all the right questions. My tip would be to prepare and time yourself doing the interview, I’m pretty sure my lesson was done in about 10 minutes when it was supposed to be 20!

The course has been fantastic. The training sessions have been top quality and equip you with all the knowledge you need to become a great teacher. Putting it into practice is another thing, and I have certainly had my ups and downs. Last week, I was shattered and questioning my life choices; going back to working from home didn’t seem such a bad thing after all! But this week, I taught a full 10 lessons and am absolutely buzzing from it. There is nothing quite like the feeling of having a full class engaged, asking questions, working hard, and knowing that you have created that learning environment for them.
