The Selection Process

Applications received are reviewed for suitability before candidates are selected for interview. As gate holders of trainees entering the teaching profession and working in direct contact with children, i2i ensure rigorous and robust safer recruitment procedures are followed. Staff are trained in Safer Recruitment procedures and we operate a culture of ongoing vigilance which starts from the moment an application is received to the end of the course. The safer recruitment of potential trainees and the safeguarding of both trainees and the children in our partner schools are of the highest priority.

An online search may be undertaken on information in the public domain as part of our due diligence checks. Online searches are conducted for shortlisted candidates in order to identify any matters that might relate directly to our legal duty to meet the safeguarding duties set out in the DfE statutory guidance document Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024. These checks take the form of a Google search in advance of the interview, and you will have the chance to address any issues of concern that arise from the search at your interview. Further information about this online search is available in our Recruitment Policy.

Self-disclosure will be required as part of the recruitment process and all successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced-level check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to be a welcoming experience in which you have the opportunity to demonstrate your suitability for, and commitment to, teacher training. It is also an opportunity to gain further information about i2i as a provider and what we offer.

The interview process helps us to assess if:

  • You have an aptitude for, and potential to, becoming an outstanding teacher

  • You have good subject knowledge or the capacity and commitment to achieve this

  • You are able to establish positive relationships with peers and young people

  • You understand the role of the teacher, the demands of the training programme and demonstrate the resilience to complete the programme

  • You are able to communicate effectively

The Interview

Wherever possible, interviews take place at the training centre nearest to you. The format of the interview morning is as follows:

  • Teaching Activity

  • Subject Knowledge Audit

  • In-tray Exercise

  • Lesson Observation

  • Panel Interview

  • Coffee & Chat with current trainee

You will be sent full details of all these activities in advance of your interview.

If you are successful at this stage – you will be offered a place on the programme. Decisions are made very soon after the interview and the outcomes communicated directly to you from ourselves and through DfE Apply.

What To Bring To The Interview

  • Original copies of your Degree, A Level and GCSE certificates. If you do not have these you will need to contact the appropriate examination board for duplicates/statements.
  • If you were educated overseas you will need to obtain a statement of comparability from ENIC (the UK National Information Centre for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills.)
  • Identity documents (Passport and Driving Licence)

We expect all attendees to attend the interview in professional dress.
